Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) welcomed a high-level delegation from the European Union (EU) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) at the Dhaka University 132/33/11KV GIS Substation on 01/10/2023. The visit aimed to assess the progress and discuss the Smart Grid Pilot Project, which is being implemented under the CSCSG Project of DPDC through an EU grant.
The delegation was led by Mr. Peteris Ustubs, Director for Middle East, Asia, and Pacific at the European Union's International Partnerships (INTPA) Directorate. H.E. Charles Whiteley, Ambassador & Head of Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh also present. Mr. Bikash Dewan, Managing Director of DPDC, along with other senior officials from DPDC, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests.
The visit complemented with a presentation session, providing insights into DPDC's Smart Grid Roadmap, its current status, and future plans for Smart Grid implementation. Mr. Habibullah, Superintendent Engineer (Tariff & Energy Audit), delivered a comprehensive presentation that outlined the project's objectives and milestones.
The EU and AFD representatives engaged in discussions with DPDC's top executives, including Executive Director (HR) Sona Mani Chakma, Executive Director (ICT) Abdullah Noman, and Executive Director (Engineering) Morshed Alam Khan. Chief Engineers from the Development, Planning & Design, and Procurement & Store departments along with project director of CSCSG project were also present, highlighting the commitment of DPDC's leadership to the successful implementation of the Smart Grid Pilot Project.
The highlight of the visit was the tour of the Dhaka University Substation, where the delegation had the opportunity to witness firsthand the advanced technology and infrastructure being used.
Mr. Peteris Ustubs expressed his appreciation for DPDC's efforts and the progress made in the Smart Grid initiative. He emphasized the importance of such projects in enhancing energy efficiency and ensuring a sustainable energy future for Bangladesh.
The visit served as a significant step forward in strengthening the collaboration between DPDC, the European Union, and AFD to achieve the goals of transformation journey towards Smart Grid . It underscored the commitment of all parties to the development and modernization of the energy sector in Bangladesh.
